Message	stethoscope to help localize the noise. You could try a long screwdriver and place your ear against the handle, and the other end against various engine areas to see if you can localize where the noise is originating. Get back to us with additional info. I thought about VTC noise, but you said it sounds as if the noise was coming from the pan area, so I doubt that's your issue.
